Selenium

Powerful
Anti-Cancer Medicine
|
Selenium
is a mineral with anticancer activity. It has the capacity to
ward off various types of cancer, including breast, esophageal,
stomach, prostate, liver and bladder cancers. However, insufficient
intake of vitamin E greatly reduces its anticancer effects. In
addition, when selenium is used in conjunction with vitamin C,
vitamin E and beta-carotene the chemical reactions that create
free radicals in the body are blocked. Free radicals can damage
DNA and cause degenerative change in cells leading to cancer.
In short, selenium contributes towards the death of cancerous
and pre-cancer cells by stopping replication. The use of selenium
during chemotherapy in combination with vitamin A and vitamin
E can reduce the toxicity of chemotherapy drugs while enhancing
the effectiveness of chemo, radiation, and hyperthermia.
Good dietary sources
of selenium are: garlic, onions, broccoli, asparagus, tomatoes,
mushrooms, seeds, whole grains, egg yolks, seafood, poultry, kidney,
liver and muscle meats. Dr. Andrew Weil says eating just one shelled
Brazil nut grown in the selenium-rich soil of central Brazil provides
120 micrograms of the selenium.
The amount of selenium in vegetables and grains depends on the
selenium content in the soil in which they are grown. This factor
makes it difficult to gage how much selenium is in our diets.
Since geography can have a significant impact on diet, a supplementation
of 200 micrograms a day with selenium-rich food (diet and supplements
about 250-300 micrograms a day) is good insurance against disease
and is unlikely to produce any major side effects.
Be careful not to overdo it in hopes of enhancing cell integrity,
as too much selenium, more than 1 mg per day, can actually be
toxic to the system. Overdose symptoms include: rapid hair loss,
skin rash, lost nails, nausea and vomiting. DEFICIENCY are: Heart
muscle disease leading to heart failure, muscle weakness and pain.

Sunflower Seed
|
Feel
a little moody? Pop a handful of sunflower seeds to balance your
mood. These common, inexpensive and nutritious kernels stabilize
mood, clear brain fog, boost brainpower, reduce pain, and improve
the immune system, arthritis and high cholesterol. If that is
not powerful in itself these mighty little seeds are so high in
protein that they can be recommended as a meat substitute. Just
1 cup of seeds, an easy handful, equals 10.5 grams of protein.
WOW! The hulled kernels are a good addition to many sweet and
savory dishes, including breads, cookies, cakes, pilafs, salads,
stuffing, and vegetable and grain dishes. Sunflower seeds can
also be ground into a nut butter paste to make a nutritious spread.
The seeds are also harvested for its valuable oil-sunflower oil.
Not only are sunflower
seeds high in nutrition, low in sodium content, calories and fats,
they also contain the highest levels of phytosterols of seeds
and nuts in the United States. Phytosterols are substances in
plants that are similar to hormones or hormone precursors that
act as food for hormone production in the body without the potential
toxic effect of synthetic hormones.
A most delightful thing about the sunflower (Helianthus annuus)
is its heliotropic movement, called nutation where the sunflower’s
head faces east at sunrise, follows the sun across the sky to
face west at sunset. These glorious sunflowers that bear heart
shaped, serrated leaves, often covered with soft hairs and whose
heads are packed together somewhat like the honeycomb of the bee
are a sure addition to brighten any room or mood. The birds love
them too!

SMUDGING
Myrrh Resin
Myrrh
is an earth element resin
with an exquisitely grounding scent.
It produces a lot of smoke when burned which is useful for removing
stubborn densities. It's earthy
and piney aroma is useful for
meditations and to evoke happiness, release, transformation,
strength, confidence and stability.
Myrrh's
resin is gathered from the
Commiphora Molmo, an almost
leafless Middle Eastern shrub. It was one of the ingredients
used by the ancient Egyptians to embalm bodies which made it useful
in rituals of Passing and well
as those of Healing.
After
Frankinscence, my favorite,
myrrh resin follows. Both scents mixed
together is wonderous!

The
everyday-American meal contains an assortment of foods that have
traveled an average of 2,000 miles to get from farm to fork. For
those concerned about energy conservation, greenhouse gases, and
oil dependence, the types of food we choose to eat are as important
as the types of cars we choose to drive (or avoid). Industrial
agriculture and long-distance food transportation generate between
20-25% of all climate destabilizing greenhouse gases in the U.S.
Given this fact, buying food that is locally or regionally grown
can dramatically reduce energy consumption and greenhouse pollution.
The local food movement has received a recent boost with the new
trend of the "100 mile diet," the brainchild of Alisa
Smith and J.B. MacKinnon. "We're the kind of people that
ride our bikes everywhere, so we wondered why we were going to
all this effort when our food was flying around the world,"
says Smith. The diet trend, which requires participants to only
eat foods grown within a 100 mile radius, is catching on across
North America. Philadelphia journalist Elisa Ludwig took up the
100 mile diet for 12 days to learn more about the foods she eats.
"If eating local is a moral imperative, then every meal is
an opportunity to do the right thing," says Ludwig, who kept
a daily journal of the experience. Read her journal entries here |
ORGANIC
BOYCOTT SPREADS--ORGANIC OUTLAWS LABELING FACTORY FARM MILK AS
"USDA ORGANIC"-In April OCA launched a
boycott of two leading organic dairy brands and distributors,
Horizon (a division of Dean Foods) and Aurora, for mislabeling
their products as "USDA Organic." All of Aurora's and
much of Horizon's "organic" milk is coming from factory
farm feedlots where the cows have been brought in from conventional
farms and have little or no access to pasture. After three months,
thousands of consumers and a number of co-ops and natural food
stores have joined the boycott. Now it's time to expand the boycott
to five grocery chains selling bogus organic milk from Aurora
Organic:
Costco's
"Kirkland Signature"
Publix’s “High Meadows"
Safeway's "O" Organics brand
Wild Oats' organic milk
Giant's "Nature's Promise."
In addition OCA is calling for a boycott of Horizon's sister
soy brands--Silk soymilk and White Wave tofu--which have begun
turning away from U.S. organic farmers and instead importing
cheap organic soybeans from China and Brazil, where labor rights
and environmental standards are routinely violated.
Please send an email message to the Shameless Seven, telling
them to stop violating organic standards and to source certified
organic foods and ingredients from North American family farmers.
And please forward this email to interested friends and colleagues.

New
hope for treating resistant infections:
ABSTRACT- A newly discovered compound produced
by a soil bacterium cured infections in mice that were resistant
to methicillin and vancomycin, the antibiotics of last resort.
Though it has not been tested in humans, the new compound, platensimycin,
could form the basis for the first major new class of antibiotics
in decades and could provide a desperately needed weapon against
antibiotic resistance.

PESTICIDES'
SILENT SPRING: WHY ROBINS AREN'T SINGING-A new study
indicates that Robins and other birds are still suffering damage
from exposure to DDT, despite the fact the pesticide was banned
in the United States over three decades ago. New research shows
that the area of the brain affected causes birds with high exposure
levels to be unable to sing and protect territory. Researchers
estimate that at least 15 to 20 generations of robins have been
affected since the pesticide was first applied. The study provides
further evidence that many of the toxic chemicals and pesticides
we use today will continue to impact the environment and public
health for generations to come. "Yes, it happened historically,
but there are still problems with pesticides," says Andrew
Iwaniuk, author of the study. "They have an extremely long
half-life and just because we use one today, that doesn't mean
it will always be safe."

"The
Power of Intention", Learning to Co-Create Your
World Your Way by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. Intention is generally viewed
as a pit-bull kind of determination propelling one to succeed
at all costs by never giving up on an inner picture. In this view,
an attitude that combines hard work with an indefatigable drive
toward excellence is the way to succeed. Intention as a force
in the universe allows the act of creation to take place. This
book explores intention-not as something you do-but as an energy
you're a part of. |

Essential Oils to Support the Journey
of Self-Discovery I
The
healing properties of Essential Oils are capable of not only treating
our physical bodies, they are renowned for enhancing our state
of mind as well. This is a good thing since so many people these
days have fallen into a state of apathy and depression that reflects
the tension of world affairs. The lack of feeling, emotion, interest
or concern that apathy produces whether it is an opinion, situation
or life in general can become a serious mental concern when we
stop caring for our selves, others and our surroundings. In the
many types of depression, the main symptoms are feelings of sadness,
hopelessness and pessimism that usurps all interest in life's
pleasures including sex. General apathy and depression can be
helped by the high vibrational energy of the following plant essential
oils.
Always
use high quality essential oils and be sure to know the source
from where they come and how they are processed. The following
are fragrances to support the transformation
process as we
spiral through stages that release us from the limitations that
stand between the egoic personality and the awareness of our Soul.

Essential oils can be used
in diffusers (1-6 drops of essence), inhaled via tissue (1 drop)
or steam vapor (2-3 drops), direct from the bottle singly or in
blends. Do not use the essence directly on the skin. Always dilute
using one drop of essential oil per ml of oil or 6-30 drops (depending
on potency) per 1 oz=30ml or 2 tablespoons of base oil in a sterilized
brown glass bottle. Store essential oils away from sunlight and
homeopathic remedies.

Body
Rhythm
Grounding
the Body
| Upon
the Earth's surface are invisible electrons that flow across the
entire planetary feild. These electrons also exist on the surface
of all conductive objects such as plants, animals & humans
in physical contact with Earth. When humans lived closely with
nature the human body naturally conducted and maintained the Earth's
voltage on the surface of the skin, throughout the respiratory
and gastroinstestinal tract. However, with the result of rubber
soled shoes that close off reception with the feet chakras and
asphalt and condo living that elevates the body above the earth,
the natural protection of Earth's direct current electric feild
is disarmed insulating the body and disconnecting it from Earth.
The loss of voltage on the skins surface is vital
for grounding the body for healthy living, free from stressors
and inflammation that weaken the immune system. Inflammation is
the precuror to a dis-ease condition. Living in tandem with nature,
her rhythm and grounding the body to Earth can help restore the
life span in the body by unleashing extraneous static electricity
and radiated electric feilds. If these feilds persist in build-up
they create unnatural weak electric currents in the body producing
dis-eased conditions that pervade in chronicity. |
Grounding
is the act of consciously creating an energy connection
from your body into the matter of Earth's
density or physical reality.
Sit
or stand. Close your eyes . Breathe through your nose and focus
your breath into your belly. Notice how your body feels as it
relaxes. Place your attention at the root chakra at the base of
the spine-women between ovaries and men at testes. Now allow a
cord of energy to flow downward from your body passing through
all density-the floor, foundation, past all rocks and Earth's
layers, water and deep into the heart of Earths core. Allow your
grounding cord to connect securely into the center of the planet.
Make sure your cord is securely connected to your first chakra.
Breathe, relax and experience your grounding, your spiritual connection
to this beautiful planet. Notice how your body responds to the
grounding and becomes more present. Release any tensions, distractions
or discomfort down your grounding cord by allowing it to simply
drain away. Breathe, relax, and experience. Allow yourself to
be. Now is the time to ask Mother Earth questions and listen for
her answers. Give thanks to her for supporting your life via her
foundation and abundance. When you are done, open your eyes, bend
forward and touch your hands to the floor, as you relax your neck,
and release any built up energy around the head and shoulders
into the earth. Slowly roll up and move on with the day.

How
to Get Inexpensive, Organic, Locally-Grown Vegetables
There are
major differences between foods grown at small,
local, organic farms and conventional food shipped
in from another city or another country. The local
food has stronger colors and aromas, and tastes
better as well. Tomatoes shipped may look pretty,
but they taste bland and are often mealy.
|
Foods that
travel such a distance sit on produces shelves and finally
after days or weeks make it into your fridge. From picking
to shipping before it is consumed food loses much of its
nutritional value. What can you do and where are all the
local farms? Here
are some great resources to obtain wholesome food that
supports not only you but also the environment:
The health
advantages of eating, tasting and smelling the best food
is often from your own kitchen-from your own garden or
from a local organic farmer. Eating fresh organic produce
is a powerful way to ensure that your food has not been
genetically modified and will optimize your health.
Although
organic feilds are being tainted by cross the pollutination
of GMO seeds, organic food is still the best choice!

Wellness
is an active state that is oriented towards maximizing an individual's
potential within their environment. Style of living deeply affects
health and wellness and requires decisions to be made to change
behavior and when to maintain current behavior. This life-long
process of moving towards optimal well-being highlights six
important dimensions of human health. These involve harmony
between the physical, emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual,
occupational, and environmental wellbeing, which
